Pens Advance To Round 2

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will face the St. John’s IceCaps in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, it was announced on Saturday night.

The Penguins advanced to the second round of the Calder Cup Playoffs after battling past the Hershey Bears in five games. St. John’s moved on after dispatching the Syracuse Crunch in four games.

The IceCaps, who captured the Atlantic Division regular season title with a record of 43-25-5-3 in their first season, have home ice advantage in the series, and will host Games 1 and 2 this coming Tuesday and Wednesday night. The series shifts to Wilkes-Barre for Games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary), with Games 6 and 7 (if necessary) being played in St. John’s. The full schedule is listed below.

Game 1 – Tuesday, May 1 – PENS at St. John’s – Mile One Centre – 6:00pm
Game 2 – Wednesday, May 2 – PENS at St. John’s – Mile One Centre – 6:00pm
GAME 3 – Saturday, May 5 – St. John’s at PENS – Mohegan Sun Arena – 7:05pm
GAME 4 – Sunday, May 6 – St. John’s at PENS – Mohegan Sun Arena – 4:05pm
*GAME 5 – Tuesday, May 8 – St. John’s at PENS – Mohegan Sun Arena – 7:05pm
*Game 6 – Friday, May 11 – PENS at St. John’s – Mile One Centre – 6:00pm

The Penguins posted a 2-2-0-0 record against the IceCaps this season, winning in Newfoundland on January 14 and 15 (6-4 and 4-3 in overtime). St. John’s recorded 5-2 and 2-0 wins in Northeast PA on March 6 and March 24, respectively.
